4.1 Calling and Heart Desires

Key Question: How do we surrender our deepest desires back to the Lord for optimal Kingdom impact?

Goal: You will demonstrate the capacity to allow Jesus to meet your deepest desires instead of seeking to meet them on your own.

In Preparation:

1. Watch Teaching Video: Calling & Heart Desires
2. Read Chapter 3 “The Hidden Realm of Desire,” from The Invitation by Tony Stoltzfus.

SPECIFIC QUESTIONS FOR THIS MODULE – STEP 2

Ask the Participant:

1. As you read about the deep desires God has given you, which ones really resonated with you? Why those ones?
2. What do you do to try to get these deep desires met on your own, apart from God?

SPECIFIC QUESTIONS FOR THIS MODULE – STEP 3

Ask the Participant:

1. As you thought about times when your deep desires did not get met, how did you feel?
2. Are there any particularly painful memories of a time when someone or something thwarted your desires from being met?

SPECIAL NOTES FOR THE COACH – STEP 4

For any deep desire or painful memory the participant shares lead them in a prayer to encounter Jesus over it and let Him speak into it again.

Encourage your participant to consider Ephesians 2:10 that says, “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Ask the Lord together to show you how the participant’s deep desires are connected to: a)  their identity in Christ, and b) God’s plan for their maximum Kingdom impact.
